Whether an aspiring engineer, problem-solver, or business-minded student, our  FIRST® Robotics Teams empower her to develop self-confidence, resilience and skills.

Grades 9-12
Our FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 8513, Sisters 1st, offers opportunities for students to become immersed in technology, business, and leadership activities. Students can join the team regardless of prior experience with robotics or engineering. Combining the excitement of sports with the rigor of technology, Sisters 1st is a Varsity Sport for the Mind ™ dedicated to inspiring young women everywhere to pursue careers in science and engineering.

Grades 7-8
Our FIRST® LEGO League Challenge Team, established September 2024, offers students opportunities to engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering while building a programming and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.

Program Features

  • Hands-on learning
  • Teamwork on concrete problems
  • Exposure to careers and adult mentors
  • Experience the closest thing to real-world engineering, including Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, and Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Discover how to create and implement effective marketing and fundraising campaigns through media, branding, program management, and community outreach

  • 3 Seasons qualifying for FIRSTⓇ World Championship in Houston, Texas

  • Introduction to Java 
  • Java for FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)
  • Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced CAD 
  • Tool Safety Training

Villa Walsh Academy SWENext (Society of Women Engineers) Club

As the only all female FIRST® Robotics Competition Team in NJ, Sisters 1st Team 8513 at Villa Walsh Academy is focused on empowering young women to be leaders in all STEM related fields, and most especially, engineering. As one of our community outreach efforts, we founded the Villa Walsh Academy SWENext Club for our entire school community in order to offer the following benefits: 

  • Offer another avenue of support, resources, and education for young women in STEM - one that our members can continue to use in college and in their professional careers. 

  • Gain leadership experience that can be used on college applications.

  • Get more of your peers engaged in STEM.

  • Connect to SWE Members.
