Biography

Mrs. Lee Anne Nugent teaches Precalculus, Algebra 2, and Geometry. After earning her Sc.B. with Honors and Magna Cum Laude in Materials Engineering from Brown University, Mrs. Nugent continued her studies with a research fellowship from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and obtained her Masters. After graduation, she was employed in the FSAT Division of AT&T Bell Laboratories in Whippany, NJ.

Her career path deviated from engineering to education in 1992 when she joined Villa Walsh Academy’s faculty as a Physics teacher. She not only taught but also took on the role of Alumnae Director and worked in development with Sr. Doris Lavinthal, MPF.

In 1995, Mrs. Nugent balanced her career with rearing five children by starting a private tutoring business, helping numerous students in math, physics, chemistry, and standardized test preparation over a span of 25 years. She returned part-time at Villa Walsh in 2018 as a Precalculus teacher, eventually transitioning to full-time in 2019. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Nugent is also the founder and head coach of Villa Walsh's FIRST® Robotics Competition Team Sisters 1st, which has become a successful and inspiring team that qualified for the 2024 World Championship. To continue empowering young women to excel in STEM fields, she and her co-coach Mr. Owen Busler expanded Villa’s curriculum by offering varied levels of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Java to its team members. In May 2024, she established a Villa Walsh Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Next Club as well as a middle school FIRST® Lego League Team with Mr. Busler, furthering Villa Walsh’s mission of fostering enthusiasm for STEM education among young women.
