Biography

Mrs. Lina Maraschi has been teaching levels I, II, III Honors and AP Italian since 1995 and has also taught Latin to the 7th and 8th graders for over 15 years. She received a degree in Bachelor of Art in Education and Italian at Rutgers - Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Rutgers - University College–Newark (UCN) while teaching full time at West Orange Middle Schools.

Mrs. Maraschi is a native Italian teacher with over 25 years experience both in public and private schools with a K-12 dual NJ State Certification in Italian and Spanish. She has also taught Spanish I and II in different public Middle Schools and High Schools before joining Villa Walsh.

She conducts classes exclusively in the target language and her goal is to develop lesson plans that educate students to achieve the three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal and Presentational. She focuses not only on the grammatical structure of the language but she also  exposes students to Italian culture through various authentic resources. She continually assesses and evaluates students progress, and makes changes in curriculum when necessary. This allows her students to perform well on national and AP exams.

Mrs. Maraschi is the moderator of the Italian Club and Italian Honor Society. In the past, she was an active member of VITA, (Voice of Italian Teachers in America)  who later became ITANJ (Italian Teachers Association of New Jersey) where she organized cultural events for more than 200 students of Italian and served on the board in many different capacities.
