Mrs. Carmela Ferrentino teaches Spanish at Villa Walsh Academy. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Literature and later a minor in Italian from Montclair State University. To keep herself updated with the latest pedagogy practices, she returned to school to earn an MA plus 30 in education. Her teaching experience started at Boonton High School where she taught Spanish and Italian. After taking time off to explore another career as a land developer, her family’s business, she returned to teaching and taught at Randolph Middle School. She eventually moved to Randolph High School and ultimately retired as a highly respected teacher by her colleagues and students alike. Her professional accomplishments include being honored by the Dodge Foundation for being an influential teacher, nominated for the Disney’s American Teacher Awards by colleagues, honored by the town of Randolph as a “Rock Star” and was named the 2016-17 Governor’s Educator of the year. Most recently, MIT honored her for being a teacher who has been especially influential in her student development. However, her true accomplishments are not the aforementioned awards but rather the progress and growth of her students. Her goal for the last 50 years has been to instill in them a passion for learning another language, to appreciate and understand the culture and customs of others, to embrace their diversity, to impress on them the value of traveling the world and more importantly to become life-long learners. |
